North American players will find it easy to access Contracts – it’s already there, unlocked from the start. Customers purchasing the retail version of the game will find a code to unlock this game mode for free, while those who get a pre-owned copy will have to buy it online … for free. Square Enix is continuing this strategy with Hitman: Absolution‘s multiplayer Contracts mode. One of the most common is the online pass, which provides the game creators with a few bucks even when someone buys their game used. With the advent of the pre-owned game market, developers have come up with a few tricks to stay profitable.
